What would happen if you made the decision that every night when you get into bed and lay your head on your pillow that you ask yourself one question:
What got better today?
The most important part about asking yourself “What got better?” is that it tells your brain it is safe to rest. Something in your life is certainly better today than it was yesterday.
So, go ahead, ask yourself that simple question: “What got better today?” And let it linger. Let your mind wander.
What would your answer focus on?
“What got better today?” is an optimistic question. It implies something DID get better. Or, better yet, when the pessimist asks “What got better today?”, there is an internal switch that gets flipped, at least for a few minutes. It requires the pessimist to look at the glass as maybe being half full.
Maybe the category of your answer tells you a lot about what is causing you stress.
